Antidepressant medication reduces frequency and severity of menopausal hot flashes

Women who were either in the transition to menopause or postmenopausal experienced a reduction in the frequency and severity of menopausal hot flashes with the use of the antidepressant medication escitalopram, compared to women who received placebo, according to a study in the January 19 issue of JAMA.

A pill containing a mix of essential oils has been shown to significantly reduce the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome. Researchers writing in BioMed Central's open access journal Reproductive Health tested the tablets by carrying out a randomised, controlled trial in 120 women.

The science team from Advaxis, Inc., the live, attenuated Listeria monocytogenes (Listeria) immunotherapy company, met with the Data Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB), an independent group of medical experts, yesterday and received approval to dose all remaining patients in the initial forty (40) patient leg of the 120-patient, cervical dysplasia clinical trial being conducted in the United States.

Banned chemicals found in pregnant women

The bodies of virtually all U.S. pregnant women carry multiple chemicals, including some banned since the 1970s and others used in common products such as non-stick cookware, processed foods and personal care products, according to a new study from UCSF. The study marks the first time that the number of chemicals to which pregnant women are exposed has been counted.
