St. Jude Children's Research Hospital patients to receive proton therapy at the UF Proton Therapy Institute

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the University of Florida Proton Therapy Institute have formed a collaboration to provide proton therapy for St. Jude patients. The announcement follows the approval of the first clinical study to evaluate the use of proton therapy for rare brain cancers in children younger than 3 years old.

Enzon Announces to sell its specialty pharmaceutical business to the sigma-tau Group for $300 million

Enzon Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq: ENZN) today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to sell its specialty pharmaceutical business to the sigma-tau Group for $300 million plus an additional amount of up to $27 million based on success milestones. Enzon will also receive royalties of 5 to 10 percent on incremental net sales above a 2009 baseline amount from Enzon’s four marketed specialty pharmaceutical products through 2014.

GTx reports financial results for the third quarter of 2009

GTx, Inc. today reported financial results for the third quarter of 2009. The net loss for the third quarter and nine months ended September 30, 2009 was $12.8 million and $35.4 million, respectively, compared with a net loss of $11.9 million and $37.9 million for the same periods in 2008. At September 30, 2009 GTx had cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments of $55.5 million.
