First-of-its-kind study provides pregnancy statistics of imprisoned U.S. women

In what is believed to be a first-of-its-kind systematic look at pregnancy frequency and outcomes among imprisoned U.S. women, researchers from Johns Hopkins Medicine say almost 1,400 pregnant women were admitted to 22 U.S. state and all federal prisons in a recent year.

Early delivery due to scrapping of ‘baby cheque’ poses risks to babies

A study by Libertad González, professor with the Department of Economics and Business at UPF and the Barcelona GSE; Cristina Borra and Almudena Sevilla, found that children born prematurely due to the scrapping of the "baby cheque" weighed less at birth and had 20% more hospitalizations, especially due to respiratory problems, although the negative effects seem to dissipate after the second month of life.

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force now has urged doctors to screen pregnant women for risks of depression and provide adequate counselling and support to prevent the onset of depression after delivery.
