Santalis Pharmaceuticals Inc., a joint venture with TFS Corporation Ltd., of Australia (ASX: TFC) is pleased to report the execution of an exclusive license agreement with a global pharmaceutical company for the marketing of a number of over-the-counter (OTC) dermatology products containing TFS' sustainably cultivated, pharmaceutical-grade East Indian Sandalwood Oil (EISO).

New research quantifying the risk of admission to hospital for self-harm has identified a raised risk of self-harm among groups of patients with certain physical illnesses. While it is known that psychiatric illnesses are associated with a greatly elevated risk of self-harm, a moderately elevated risk was seen with common physical illnesses such as diabetes, epilepsy and asthma.

The new product consists of natural phages against Salmonella and is produced by Micreos of The Netherlands. The company confirms that industrial scale projects with US poultry processors will start in January 2014.

Gene mutations responsible for persistent AD in African American children

Two specific genetic variations in people of African descent are responsible for persistent atopic dermatitis (AD), an itchy, inflammatory form of the skin disorder eczema. A new report by researchers in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania found that loss-of-function mutations to Filaggrin-2 (FLG2), a gene that creates a protein responsible for retaining moisture and protecting the skin from environmental irritants, were associated with atopic dermatitis in African American children.
