DJO's new Moveo XP Rehabilitation Platform granted U.S. patent

DJO Incorporated, a global provider of medical device solutions for musculoskeletal health, vascular health and pain management, today announced that its Chattanooga division was issued U.S. Patent No. 7597656 for Chattanooga’s new Moveo XP Rehabilitation Platform. The Moveo XP is the first product of its kind, allowing patients who are incapable of supporting full body weight to participate in graded weight-bearing activity at an earlier stage in their physical rehabilitation.

Merck said today that U.S. District Court Judge John F. Keenan granted summary judgment in Merck's favor in Flemings v. Merck. Flemings is the second of three cases involving FOSAMAX (alendronate sodium) designated by the federal MDL court as a bellwether trial case.

Seattle Genetics and Agensys expand ADC collaboration

Seattle Genetics, Inc. (Nasdaq: SGEN) and Agensys, Inc., an affiliate of Astellas, announced today an expansion of the companies’ antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) collaboration. Under the amended agreement, Agensys will pay a $12 million fee for exclusive rights to ADC licenses against additional antigen targets. Seattle Genetics also receives an option to co-develop another ADC at the time of investigational new drug (IND) submission.

New computational tool may aid surgeons plan for life-saving pediatric operation

A team of researchers at the University of California, San Diego and Stanford University has developed a way to simulate blood flow on the computer to optimize surgical designs. It is the basis of a new tool that may help surgeons plan for a life-saving operation called the "Fontan" surgery, which is performed on babies born with severe congenital heart defects.

Study: Men who do moderate-to-heavy intensity exercise are less likely to have stroke

Men who regularly take part in moderate-to-heavy intensity exercise such as jogging, tennis or swimming may be less likely to have a stroke than people who get no exercise or only light exercise, such as walking, golfing, or bowling, according to a study published in the November 24, 2009, print issue of Neurology ®, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

Ception Therapeutics, Inc., a privately held biopharmaceutical company, and Cephalon, Inc. today announced results from a Phase IIb/III clinical trial for CINQUIL(TM) (reslizumab) as a treatment for pediatric eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). Pfizer announced today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Revatio® (sildenafil) Injection, an intravenous formulation of Revatio. Revatio is the only FDA-approved phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitor available in both tablet and intravenous formulations.
