Benchmark Electronics announces fiscal 2009 third-quarter results

Benchmark Electronics, Inc. (NYSE: BHE), a leading contract manufacturing provider, announced sales of $510 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2009, compared to $642 million for the same quarter in the prior year. The Company reported third quarter net income of $16 million, or $0.25 per diluted share. In the comparable period of 2008, net income was $24 million, or $0.35 per diluted share.

New data from efficacy study of CIMZIA in Crohn's disease patients presented

New data from an open-label extension study evaluating the long-term safety and efficacy of CIMZIA® (certolizumab pegol) in moderate to severe Crohn's disease patients demonstrate that 82 percent of patients actively treated with CIMZIA - the only PEGylated anti-TNF-alpha (Tumor Necrosis Factor alpha) - remained in long-term remission without dose escalation up to 3.5 years.

Genetic mutations cause for SIDS and SUDS

Scientists and clinicians at the Montefiore-Einstein Center for Cardiogenetics have teamed up and found that genetic mutations leading to Long QT Syndrome (LQTS) could be causing electrical malfunctioning of the heart resulting in the mysterious deaths more commonly known as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and Sudden Unexplained Death Syndrome (SUDS) in people older than 12 months of age.

U.S. adult population is becoming obese and sedentary; healthy BMI and exercise improves fitness levels

Men and women become gradually less fit with age, with declines accelerating after age 45, according to a report in the October 26 issue of Archives of Internal Medicine, one of the JAMA/Archives journals. However, maintaining a healthy body mass index (BMI), not smoking and being physically active are associated with higher fitness levels throughout adult life.
