New method enhances delivery of DNA payloads into cells

Chang Lu and his chemical engineering research group at Virginia Tech have discovered how to "greatly enhance" the delivery of DNA payloads into cells. The description of their work will be featured on the cover of Lab on a Chip (issue 16), the premier journal for researchers in microfluidics.

Northwest Biotherapeutics raises $2.65M during second-quarter

Northwest Biotherapeutics, Inc., developer of the DCVax® personalized cancer vaccines, announced today that during the second quarter it raised funding of $2.65 million from investors. The funding included $1.75 million in purchases of restricted common stock of the Company by a number of private investors, together with purchases of restricted Common Stock totaling $900,000 by SDS Capital and by Ms. Linda F. Combination of Biothera's Imprime PGG and Erbitux doubles response rate in colorectal cancer patients

The combination of Biothera's experimental drug Imprime PGG® and Erbitux® (cetuximab) doubled the historical overall response rate and the time to progression of second- and third-line metastatic colorectal cancer patients treated with Erbitux monotherapy. The data was released last weekend at the 13th World Congress on Gastrointestinal Cancer at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO).

FDA accepts DBV Technologies' IND for clinical study of VIASKIN for desensitization to peanut allergy

DBV Technologies (DBV), a biotech company specializing in food allergy with innovative products for diagnosis and treatment, announced today the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has accepted its Investigational New Drug (IND) application. DBV Technologies will begin clinical investigation of its lead food allergy desensitization candidate, VIASKIN® PEANUT, for the desensitization to peanut allergy. Tolerx presents preclinical data on TRX518 anti-GITR immunotherapy for cancer

Tolerx, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company developing novel therapies to treat autoimmune diseases and cancer by modulating T cell activity, presented results from preclinical studies with TRX518, an early-stage agent Tolerx is developing as a treatment for cancer. FDA grants Tolera's TOL101 orphan drug designation for treatment of T1DM

Tolera Therapeutics, Inc., was granted orphan drug status by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for TOL101 (anti-TCR murine monoclonal antibody, type IgM), for treatment of recent onset immune-mediated Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). Designation is granted for treatment of patients sixteen years of age and younger with immune-mediated T1DM and preserved pancreatic beta-cell function, commonly referred to as juvenile diabetes.
