Leading cancer care charity Macmillan Cancer Relief is once again rated most effective charity at campaigning by MPs

Leading cancer care charity Macmillan Cancer Relief is once again rated most effective charity at campaigning by MPs. The latest nfpSynergy Charity Parliamentary Monitor puts Macmillan ahead of the UK's other leading charities.

Macmillan also receives the highest rating of all charities (in the survey) as the charity that has directly impressed MPs the most in the last six months.

Macmillan is particularly encouraged that its 'Get It Spent Where It's Meant' campaign has achieved very high levels of awareness amongst MPs, with almost a third of them having taken action to support it in their constituency. This has helped push the issue of cancer resource-tracking right up Ministers' and the NHS agenda. Macmillan is also the charity with which most MPs recall having had contact, either in their constituency or at Westminster. The scores show that Macmillan continues to improve in the area of direct contact with MPs.

Peter Cardy, Chief Executive, Macmillan Cancer Relief, comments: 'Get It Spent Where It's Meant has been a powerful campaign, and Macmillan's high ranking in the latest wave of the nfpSynergy Charity Parliamentary Monitor is evidence of that.

'MPs' support for the campaign has been really impressive and crucial to putting the issue of improved resource-tracking for Cancer Plan money high up Ministers' and the NHS agenda. We're also delighted at the support that MPs give us locally through serving as appeal patrons like David Blunkett, who visited the Macmillan Mobile Cancer Information Centre during its visit to Sheffield this week.'
