Change in CPR guidelines means more lives will be saved

According to the American Heart Association the new simpler guidelines for giving CPR to people suffering cardiac arrest, will be more effective in keeping the blood flowing to the heart, when people suffer a heart attack.

The Heart Association advises that the chest should be compressed 30 times before giving two mouth-to-mouth rescue breaths, then the chest should be pumped again.

When a heart attack occurs the heart stops suddenly and blood stops flowing to the heart.

The new rules are easier to remember and should mean that more people will be able to save lives.

It is estimated that as many as nine out of 10 cardiac arrest victims die before reaching the hospital because most people are clueless as to what to do.
