Surface analysis for transdermal patches

One of the fastest growing sectors in drug delivery is the use of transdermal patches.

A whole range of pharmaceuticals can now be delivered at a carefully controlled rate through the skin via transdermal products.

The performance of transdermal products is related to several factors, two of which are:-

a) Distribution of drug species with depth from contact surface.
b) Distribution uniformity of drug species across the release interface.

A variety of surface analysis techniques are available to accurately map the distribution of selected species with depth and spatially. DSIMS depth profiling provides chemical information with depth at nm depth resolution. ToFSIMS imaging provides detailed molecular information with a spatial resolution of a micron.

Both techniques are extensively used to optimise the performance of transdermal products.

CSMA's surface analysis expertise is world renowned and has been built up over twenty years of solving problems for a wide range of industries and materials.
