Massage Envy clinics to donate funds to support breast cancer education

On Tuesday, September 15, at all Massage Envy clinics in the D.C. metro area, you can relax, get healthier, and help in the fight against breast cancer. All 18 area clinics in Maryland, D.C. and Virginia are offering massages at more than half-off the regular price, with $10 from each session being donated directly to area affiliates of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Nearly 600 Massage Envy clinics across the nation will be offering the one-hour therapeutic massage sessions for $35. Additional donations will also be accepted, and all proceeds collected will go directly into the local communities. Massage Envy's goal for the day is to raise a total of $500,000 for the fight against Breast Cancer, with approximately $20,000 of that coming from the D.C. metro area.

"Several studies have found a link between stress and an increased risk of breast cancer," noted Eric Barton, Regional Developer for Massage Envy. "While more research is needed, experts know that relaxation can strengthen a person's immune system and help them fight all types of illnesses. Massage for the Cure is one way of promoting personal health and wellness, while giving our clients and community the opportunity to support individuals currently battling breast cancer."

The Massage for the Cure event is open to the public and requires an appointment at any of the D.C. metro area Massage Envy clinics. All proceeds from Massage for the Cure will support breast cancer education, screening and treatment initiatives in communities across the US.

This year alone, more than 180,000 women and men in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 will lose their lives to the disease. A woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every three minutes and the disease claims another life every 13 minutes.
