Health Net, Inc. (NYSE:HNT) is honored to serve as a national sponsor of the 2nd National Veterans Summer Sports Clinic, to be held Sept. 20–25, 2009, in San Diego, Calif. This partnership is an example of our ongoing commitment to serving veterans and supporting programs that improve their quality of life.
“Sponsoring the 2nd National Veterans Summer Sports Clinic this year is an excellent opportunity for us to give back to those veterans who have sacrificed so much,” said Steve Tough, president, Health Net Federal Services. “Health Net is dedicated to improving the quality of life for America’s veterans by supporting programs like these that help veterans achieve a healthy life and improved spirit.”
Because Health Net recognizes the benefits of a holistic approach to wellness, our behavioral health subsidiary, MHN, will provide on-site coaches to offer support and education for participating veterans and their caregivers.
Participation is open to U.S. military service veterans with orthopedic amputations, traumatic brain injuries, burn injuries, psychological trauma, certain neurological conditions, visual impairment, spinal cord injuries and other eligible injuries incurred in the last six years. For veterans recently injured, the events promote rehabilitation by teaching adaptive adventure sports to veterans with significant physical or psychological disabilities. Sporting challenges such as sailing, surfing, kayaking, cycling, and track and field will be offered. The Clinic’s activities instill not only confidence and hope, but also demonstrate that having a visual or physical disability need not be an obstacle to an active, rewarding life.
