SAGE SOLUTIONS announces market release of Drain Pouch Management Gown

SAGE SOLUTIONS, INC. today announced the market release of its Drain Pouch Management Gown™ (DPM Gown™), a uniquely engineered patient gown, designed to manage drain bulb pouches during post-surgical recovery. The DPM Gown™ features patent pending, two-way pockets that securely hold drain bulbs in place. Four separate pockets accommodate a series of drain bulbs while giving patients freedom to comfortably move about. This gown is crafted of fabric treated with Microbe Shield™, a durable non-migrating treatment that inhibits bacteria growth, keeping it cleaner and fresher longer. The fabric has a silk-like feel and its smooth non-abrading surface protects sensitive skin during treatment and recovery. The DPM Gown™ is also lint free, which prevents bacteria and viruses from being transferred to wounds by the fabric. SAGE SOLUTIONS, INC. has also designed a standard hospital gown using this protective fabric.

Following a mastectomy in August 2007, Angela Davis struggled with three post-surgical Jackson-Pratt drain pouches and lines that pulled on her sutures and limited her mobility. This painful experience propelled Davis to design and manufacture a patient gown unlike any other currently available.

Davis and her partners at SAGE SOLUTIONS, INC. spent nearly two years in development to ensure the design of the Drain Pouch Management Gown™ was right for patients. The unique two-way pocket design lets caregivers access drains, clear lines and check sutures with greater ease. Secure snaps across the top and down the middle of the gown, as well as a double flap at the back, assure complete coverage for the patient. This thoughtful design and attention to detail significantly enhance patient comfort, safety and dignity while healing.

Davis has the support of doctors like Jean-Francois Lefaivre, MD, FRCSC of Carolinas Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery. “I am happy that one of my patients created this wonderful gown. In addition to pain from the procedure, patients are uncomfortable with their drains following breast reconstruction. Compared to the traditional hospital gown, it will be easier for me to examine patients during rounds," says Lefaivre.

“In order to make a difference with the DPM Gown™, it must be available to every healthcare provider in the country so they can more easily and successfully provide the highest level of care, protection, comfort and preservation of dignity for patients,” says Davis.
