With the onset of the H1N1 virus, commonly known as the Swine Flu, more and more small businesses need to be prepared. That’s why Office Depot (NYSE:ODP), a leading global provider of office products and services, is teaming up with Acme United to create the “Fight the Flu Kit.”
Acme United's PhysiciansCare “Fight the Flu” kit includes a face mask, gloves, hand sanitizer, cleaning wipes, and facial tissues. The flu deterrence kit is currently available for $7.99 at Office Depot retail locations nationwide and online at www.officedepot.com.
According to Jon Toigo, Office Depot Disaster Preparedness Advisor, IT Veteran and author of five books on business continuity and disaster recovery, small businesses should heed advance warnings and get their most important assets – people and data – prepared. “Don’t wait for a flu outbreak to get prepared. There are simple and affordable steps you can take to protect your business and employees now.”
Office Depot and Toigo advise small businesses take the following precautions to prepare for the upcoming flu season:
- Build solid contact lists. Include names and phone numbers of employees, vendors, and emergency agencies. Have contact lists stored both inside and outside the office and kept in the possession of two or more trusted managers or staff members, just in case one employee is out for an extended period of time.
- Establish emergency communications procedures and plans if employees are not able to come into the office.
- Organize supplies. Make sure that the office has multiple flu deterrence kits available for all employees. Advise employees to have a spare kit at home as well as in their place of business.
