Call it “the sweet spot.” The Greek Gods Yogurt is in the enviable
target zones where yogurt sales are domestically growing most. In its
most recent Nov. 2009 report, Mintel’s industry data found the probiotic
and protein-packed Greek Gods Yogurt brand situated in yogurt’s most
evident growth segments.
“Even in 2009, when yogurt sales across the board weren’t as vigorous as
previous years, our brand still enjoyed notable growth”
A $4.1 billion market in 2009, data shows growth has been fueled by the
healthy eating trend coupled with a high level of product innovation
focused on premium, all-natural, organic, Greek-style, and functional
products such as digestive health, probiotic yogurts.
“Even in 2009, when yogurt sales across the board weren’t as vigorous as
previous years, our brand still enjoyed notable growth,” Basel Nassar
said, The Greek Gods managing partner. “Consumers in America are valuing
yogurt that has full flavor and functional health benefits; Greek style
yogurt has been around for centuries and America is warming up to it
relatively fast.”
The Greek Gods was named by Mintel as one of the top-performing small
“other” brands driving growth in the yogurt market and chipping away at
market share from big brands. Of the more than 1,200 yogurt products
launched since 2005, Mintel cited the hottest trends in the yogurt
market as organic and natural; functional yogurts made with probiotics,
high protein and fiber; Greek-style yogurt; indulgent dessert-style
yogurts; and kid-targeted products.
The Greek Gods Yogurt has gained cult following and is found nationwide
in better supermarkets. The entire product line is comprised of Pagoto
Ice Krema (made in the Greek tradition with mastic resin) in baklava,
honey-pomegranate and chocolata fig flavors; Greek Sour Cream Lebni (a
spreadable kefir cheese-yogurt also used as cream cheese); and Greek
Gods Yogurt, in 6-ounce or 24-ounce packs (one nonfat and five whole fat
varieties) including honey, fig, pomegranate, plain, vanilla and
honey-strawberry flavors.
