MISI opens new comprehensive spine care facility in Las Colinas

The Minimally Invasive Spine Institute (MISI), one of the most advanced diagnostic and treatment facilities for back and neck pain as well as spinal disorders in the United States, has opened a comprehensive spine care facility in Las Colinas to offer both holistic and traditional approaches to spine care, advancing physician practices by forever changing the patient experience.

“Through a careful and consumer-focused attention to detail, we have been able to create a space that will change how patients feel about treatment”

MISI was the first practice in Texas to perform endoscopic, or camera-assisted, laser spine surgery and the first in Texas to do so with an incision of less than three millimeters.

“The Minimally Invasive Spine Institute is dedicated to improving the patient experience while providing state-of-the-art procedures – whether they are traditional or holistic,” said MISI co-founder, Dr. Douglas S. Won. “The new spine care facility will exceed the needs of patients as well as provide them with an upscale spa-like atmosphere that our team hand picked from around the globe.”

The expansion is a direct result of practice growth and the changing needs of patients. This is the first in a phased growth plan with a second comprehensive spine care facility on North Central Expressway in Dallas, opening in the fall of 2010.

MISI’s new Las Colinas location occupies 7,000 square feet on MacArthur Boulevard, just North of Cottonwood Lane. The new facility will enhance the patient experience by treating the mind and body – providing doctor visit accommodations, physical therapy, massage therapy, chiropractic services and acupuncture.

“Surgery is not the answer for everyone’s back pain and it is our goal to offer the best resources available for each patient’s needs,” said MISI co-founder, Dr. Michael Rimlawi. “Our new Las Colinas facility will create an optimal patient experience in a warm, modern and inviting space.”

From floating ceilings and a calming color palette to online appointment scheduler, pharmacy refill capabilities and a high-tech phone system, the new MISI office has the appeal of the most recent architectural magazines and provides state-of-the-art equipment to suit the needs of each patient and was built to focus on back health.

Front of the Practice

Patients are welcomed in a modern space that is complemented by creamy whites, buttery yellows, rich chocolate browns and deep turquoises. The facility was created with an intricate attention to detail, including light grey carpeting, complementary tile selections, circular reception desk and lighted pendants. The overall design approach creates a spa-like environment – one that promotes a tranquil, non-threatening ambiance while also exemplifying the progressive, state-of-the-art nature of MISI. Details and finishes take cues from elements related to MISI’s services – flow of motion, continuity and connectivity.

The waiting room includes a 55” flat panel TV and a 47” flat panel LCD TV that will host an array of patient spine care education. The theater system boasts serene, classical and jazz music lightly in the background. For the comfort of MISI guests, secured wireless Internet and a barista bar have been included. Stainless roller barn doors – imported from Germany – will give patients access to the back of the practice. The reception area also includes registration cubicles, a dining room and patient information area. The lobby can also double as a seminar area for future patients.

Back of the Practice

All clinical and staff areas contain finishes, lighting and casework to meet all infection control and stain resistance criteria.

Eight private exam rooms feature high-end flooring, light grey carpeting and multi-colored cabinets.

“Through a careful and consumer-focused attention to detail, we have been able to create a space that will change how patients feel about treatment,” Dr. Won said. “We were able to bring in designers and a health care development team that collaborated to create the facility.”

Ronald A. Duperroir of Clarity Development, Realty and Health Management advised MISI on the project development.

“Each project we do brings a level of satisfaction,” said Ronald A. Duperroir, a principal of Dallas-based Clarity Development. “Taking the MISI vision and turning it into a reality will be one of the highlights of my medical construction career. The doctors knew exactly what they wanted and were involved from beginning to end which resulted in an exceptional practice environment built specifically for spine care patients.”

Holtman Design provided interior design and Highland Builders worked on the project.

A Ribbon Cutting and Open House will be held, Thursday, February 18, 2010, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. The Minimally Invasive Spine Institute’s Cottonwood facility is located at 4301 N. MacArthur Blvd., Irving, Texas, 75038.
