Raised levels of carbon dioxide in blood may lead to ‘near death experiences’

Near death experiences (NDEs), reported to include sensations such as life flashing before the eyes, feelings of peace and joy, and apparent encounters with mystical entities, may be caused by raised levels of carbon dioxide in the blood. Researchers writing in BioMed Central's open access journal Critical Care investigated the unexplained events in 52 cardiac arrest patients.

Zalika Klemenc-Ketis worked with a team of researchers from the University of Maribor, Slovenia, to examine patients who reported NDEs. She said, "Several theories explaining the mechanisms of NDEs exist. We found that in those patients who experienced the phenomenon, blood carbon dioxide levels were significantly higher than in those who did not".

Of the 52 patients, 11 reported NDEs. Their occurrence did not correlate with patients' sex, age, level of education, religious belief, fear of death, time to recovery or drugs given during resuscitation. They were more common in people who had previously experienced NDEs. According to Klemenc-Ketis, "Our study adds new and important information to the field of NDE phenomena. The association with carbon dioxide has never been reported before, and deserves further study".

How come so many people including me who have had NDE's report the same events occuring? Being lifted through a dark tunnel in which a light is at the end of it? I felt the goodness of the light at what seemed a very logn distance away goign through my body and although the natural inclination would be to just continue to the light if it was a dream, I had a choice and decided I wasnt ready to go to the other side. I was quickly returned to my body in bed and woke up. It isn't just Co2.

Lukesteele, the scientists cannot explain it.  They want to - so they search for any commonalities between the cases.  They desperately want to explain what they do not understand.  They cloak it in the category of "the more we learn about our consciousness, blah, blah, blah" and for what reason?  They should spend their grants and brains on something more urgent.  They cannot and will not accept that this may be something they should not know about - a spiritual entrance to the next life.

My mother has GBM, a malignant form of brain tumour. THC,derived from cannabis is known to regress the growth of cancers but still here in Australia its not recognized as a medical product. The USA is doing trials and finding THC works, as have the Spanish back in 2006. Critical patients cant wait forever for the bureaucracies to decide what can be legal and what cant. Lives are at risk each day this issue is neglected.
