Aesculap Implant Systems introduces S4 MIS Cannulated Pedicle Screw Spine Fusion System

Aesculap Implant Systems, LLC is pleased to announce the launch of the S MIS (Minimally Invasive Solutions) Cannulated Pedicle Screw Spine Fusion System.

“The S4 MIS Cannulated Pedicle Screw System now allows surgeons to use a guided pedicle screw technique with a reduced incision size as an additional option in minimally invasive spine surgery”

The S4 MIS Cannulated Pedicle Screw System is an innovative pedicle screw system indicated for use in the thoracolumbar spine for minimally invasive spine fusion surgery. It features a simple and easy-to-use dilator mechanism and when combined with the SpyderTM Minimally Invasive Retractor System, offers a cannulated screw option for spine surgeons who wish to utilize a guided screw technique in a mini-open incision approach. The system is designed to encourage the surgeon to utilize an ever more localized and less-invasive surgical approach on posterior lumbar fusion cases.

"The S4 MIS Cannulated Pedicle Screw System now allows surgeons to use a guided pedicle screw technique with a reduced incision size as an additional option in minimally invasive spine surgery", said Chuck DiNardo, President of Aesculap Implant Systems. "Minimally-invasive procedures continue to grow in popularity and the S4 MIS Pedicle Screw System when combined with our Spyder Retractor System allows surgeons the opportunity to provide their patients all the benefits MIS has to offer."

The S4 MIS Cannulated Pedicle Screw System is built on the success of the standard S4 Implant System which has been used safely in thousands of surgeries. The S4 MIS Cannulated Pedicle Screw System utilizes the Small, Stable, Simple and Safe features within a cannulated pedicle screw platform. Similar to the standard S4 implant set, the S4 MIS Cannulated screws offer a small implant volume, low run on the rod and a low profile. As with the standard S4 system, the S4 MIS Cannulated Pedicle Screw System offers high biomechanical stability with low input torque during final set screw tightening. The S4 MIS Cannulated Pedicle Screw System is designed specifically for surgeons who wish to utilize a guided screw insertion technique through a smaller mini-open incision. The S4 MIS Cannulated Pedicle Screw System may be used independently with the use of tissue dilators and tissue protection sleeves, or in combination with the Spyder Retractor following a mini-open surgical technique.

The S4 MIS Cannulated Pedicle Screw System utilizes a percutaneous, free-hand rod insertion technique and is an excellent choice as additional support in an ALIF procedure, XLIF procedure or whenever decompression is not required. If decompression is required, the S4 MIS Cannulated Pedicle Screw System may be used in conjunction with the Spyder Retractor in a complete mini-open or hybrid fashion, adding the advantage of the unique decompression instrument within the Spyder Retractor set. Additionally, pre-bent, conical tipped rods allow for easy insertion and capture the rod through the percutaneous incision. A third distal incision is not required or recommended for the free-hand technique.
