TEAM TO END AIDS endurance training program launched

TEAM TO END AIDS endurance training program now open for registration

AIDS United has officially launched TEAM TO END AIDS, a new endurance training program for all levels of athletes that includes marathon and half marathon coaching. Beginners and experienced athletes can register today at: www.T2EA.com.

In just a few months, TEAM TO END AIDS (T2) trains participants to complete a marathon or half marathon, even if they've never trained before!  Whether a beginner or a veteran of endurance challenges, T2 will prepare participants to go the distance and raise money to help fight AIDS.  Simply choose your challenge – marathon or half marathon – and T2 staff and certified coaches will be with you each step of the way providing professional fundraising, training and nutritional support.  T2 offers a five-month marathon and four-month half marathon training program for four endurance events:

  • Marine Corps Marathon Washington, D.C.
  • Bank of America Chicago Marathon Chicago, IL
  • Honolulu Marathon Honolulu, HI
  • Rock 'n' Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon Virginia Beach, VA

Registration fee is $95 and each participant will be asked to meet a minimum fundraising goal. Training begins May 14, 2011 (training for the Honolulu Marathon begins in June). All levels of experience are welcome.

Developed in 2009 by the AIDS Foundation of Chicago, T2 will support the life-saving work of AIDS United and the Washington AIDS Partnership (an AIDS United community partner) by helping to raise funds to support programs and services that change lives in the District of Columbia and around the country.  T2 marks the first national HIV/AIDS-focused marathon training event in Washington, D.C. since 2006, which was the final year of the National AIDS Marathon Training Program.

"AIDS United is thrilled to announce this exciting new athletic program to raise money for life-saving HIV/AIDS services in the District of Columbia and around the country," said AIDS United President and CEO Mark Ishaug, who helped establish T2 in Chicago as President and CEO of AIDS Foundation of Chicago.  "We are looking forward to re-igniting the passion of former D.C. participants in the National AIDS Marathon Training Program and encouraging them to take part in T2, while we reach out and help first-time participants do something extraordinary for their community and themselves."

"Like most people who have completed this program, I can personally say that it has been life-changing," said Katie Wargula, a T2 marathoner who participated in the Chicago program. "Each participant is able to do something they never thought possible: help save lives and have fun in the process. It doesn't get any better than that!"

Get fit. Have fun. Make a difference. Register today at T2EA.com or call 202-408-4848 ext. 3.
