"Cracking the Safe: Advances in HIV/AIDS Prevention and Treatment" is a one-day symposium at the New York Academy of Sciences examining issues facing researchers working towards the development of an HIV/AIDS vaccine, including updates on current challenges and solutions. The symposium will cover epidemiological challenges, developments in HIV virology and immunology, including ex vivo and in vivo imaging of viruses crossing the mucosal barrier, the latest in the search for HIV vaccines and microbicides-including early insights in Thai HIV vaccine trials-and an update on HIV-1 eradication.
The keynote speakers will be Myron S. Cohen, MD, UNC School of Medicine, and David Cook, PhD, International AIDS Vaccine Initiative. Cohen will present an epidemiological update on HIV/AIDS, while Cook will talk about the IAVI's ongoing and future strategy for the development of an AIDS vaccine.
