Pennsylvania Department of Health to provide free influenza and Tdap vaccines

The Department of Health will offer free influenza and Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis (Tdap) vaccines at the 2012 Pennsylvania Farm Show, Jan. 9-13, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

The flu vaccine is recommended for everyone over six months of age, and receiving a shot in January still provides protection for the rest of this flu season. The Tdap vaccine is a one-time substitute for a Tetanus Diphtheria booster, which is needed every 10 years.

Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to receive either vaccine. Appointments are not necessary.

The department will also provide information on smoking cessation, lead poisoning prevention, organ donation, Lyme disease and how special populations can prepare for an emergency. Additional vendors will include health and wellness organizations from across the state.

This year, the Department of Health will be featured in the Main Hall located in the Maclay Street lobby area.
