'Grand challenges in global health' initiative calls for applications for the 'next generation of condom'

"The Grand Challenges in Global Health initiative, backed by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, launched the 'Next Generation of Condom' challenge this month," NBC News Los Angeles reports (Ebright, 3/23). "The contest is part of the foundation's Round 11 Grand Challenges Explorations initiative and will offer financial support above the initial funding if a new condom is chosen," GlobalPost writes (Besant, 3/23). "Anyone from students to scientists to entrepreneurs can apply for the next-gen condom grant, and they must provide a 'testable hypothesis,'" according to the Washington Times (Chasmar, 3/24). "Not only would the winning students, scientists or entrepreneurs receive an initial grant of $100,000 each, the foundation says that projects with the most potential will have the chance to be given up to $1 million more in funding," according to Science Recorder (Fluere, 3/24). "Applications for the 'Next Generation of Condom' challenge are due May 7, 2013," NBC notes (3/23).
