VA scandal becomes issue in Congressional campaigns

As probes of Veterans Affairs hospitals continue, Democratic and Republican candidates are pointing fingers and attempting to find political advantage in the controversy.

As federal investigators try to get to the bottom of the misconduct -- and potentially criminal activity -- in the Veterans Affairs hospital system, calls for VA Secretary Eric Shinseki to go are mounting. Politicians, however, aren't stopping there -- as they demand accountability for the serious problems in the VA system, both Democrats and Republicans are pointing fingers at their midterm opponents. "Let's Make 2014 About Veterans," the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), the Senate Democrats' campaign arm, declared at the top of a slew of press releases Thursday, slamming Republicans' records on veterans' issues (Condon, 5/30).
