GGEC opens new Endoscopy Center in Gastonia, NC

Four physicians, Sam Drake, MD; Bill Watkins, MD; Neville Forbes, MD; Austin Osemeka, MD and staff of the Greater Gaston Endoscopy Center (GGEC) joined by Physicians Endoscopy are pleased to announce the opening of their new Endoscopy Center in Gastonia, NC.

Greater Gaston Endoscopy Center (GGEC) is a new Center partnership licensed by the State of North Carolina, and is a "Center of Excellence" in every aspect of the term.

GGEC received CON conditional approval in 2011, and saw their first patients on February 10, 2015. GGEC is a 6,325 square foot endoscopic ambulatory surgery center with two procedure rooms—providing just what the physicians and community needs. Until now, Gaston County was the largest county in North Carolina without a free-standing endoscopy center.

"Opening the Center is about providing better access to care for our local patients. This partnership allowed us to become more of a functioning group rather than four individual physicians. With the help of Physicians Endoscopy to organize, coordinate, and execute a strategy in this joint venture relationship, GGEC will be able to provide cost effective procedures for patients that would have otherwise been prohibitive," stated Sam Drake, MD, Co-Medical Director. "The Center will allow us more independence to make decisions about the best ways to meet our patients' needs," said Bill Watkins, MD, Co-Medical Director.

"We are so proud to finally be able to bring Greater Gaston Endoscopy Center to the citizens of Gaston County. This new state of the art facility will offer convenient, safe, cost effective endoscopic care provided by a highly trained, dedicated staff and some of the best Gastroenterologists in the Greater Gaston area. We believe that this facility will be a shining example of how endoscopic care will be delivered in our ever changing healthcare delivery system," stated Barry Tanner, CEO of Physicians Endoscopy.
