DaVita Way of Giving program receives Communitas Award

DaVita HealthCare Partners Inc. (NYSE: DVA), one of the nation's largest and most innovative health care communities, today announced that the company received a Communitas Award for its DaVita Way of Giving program.

Over the past four years, DaVita HealthCare Partners teammates have given $4.6 million through DaVita Way of Giving, a locally focused charitable giving initiative that helps nonprofits across the nation grow and thrive.

"Our teammates bring intention and thoughtfulness to engaging in their communities," said Steve Priest, chief wisdom officer for DaVita HealthCare Partners. "DaVita Way of Giving gives teammates a way to develop lasting relationships with organizations that make a difference."

Each DaVita HealthCare Partners dialysis and medical center has the opportunity to make a donation to a nonprofit organization in its community. Teammates at each center decide which charity to support and some centers combine their donations to create a larger impact for the receiving charity.

Most teammates organize check presentations where they present donations ranging from $1,000 to $21,000. In addition, many centers also organize community service projects – called Village Service Days at DaVita HealthCare Partners – for their charities. For instance, in St. Augustine, Florida, teammates traveled to St. Francis House, a local shelter, with holiday decorations, toys and clothing they had collected for shelter residents and visitors. They spent an afternoon hanging lights and wreaths to bring some holiday cheer to the shelter.
