Can the cell membranes be analyzed by some means to compare their composition with respect to other compounds that might have the effect of blocking glucose uptake? For example, can the number of insulin receptors in different samples be compared? Can elements or compounds that are known or hypothesized to inhibit glucose uptake, be compared? Do diabetes drugs cross the blood-brain-barrier, and might they help with glucose uptake in the brain? What about chemicals released during exercise, for example in muscle tissue?
