    I strongly disagree that there is any protective effect in females - because I believe the gender ratio is 50/50 equal split, it's just that the diagnostic criteria do not recognise female presentation, so many females are undiagnosed or misdiagnosed.  Thus this money is wasted on researching something that does not exist.
