Leukemia is a cancer that starts in early blood-forming cells. Cellular drug resistance is a major limitation to the success of chemotherapy of leukemia and lymphoma. The importance of this has now been recognized by both clinicians and researchers. Studies on mechanisms of cancer drug resistance have yielded important information about how to circumvent this resistance to improve cancer treatment methods.
