People with SCI do not place a burden on family and community. ScI puts a burden on the individual. This statement perpetuates negative stereotypes and assumptions about people with SCI and contributes to demeaning attitudes and biases against people with this disability. I have an SCI and am not a burden but a strong contributor to my family and community. Please redact this negative statement and educate yourself. It should read that SCI places a severe burden on the individuals who experience it due to societal barriers, e.g., physical inaccessibility and negative attitudes which act as barriers to full inclusion and access to equitable healthcare.
