Not only pains, ALL diseases need go this personalized path for better outcome, the so-callsed individualized or personalized medicine. For instancce, for glycemic control in diabetes, different drugs are needed in order to take into account for the fact that being at the same blood sugar level, one patient needs a drug to treat the liver because it produces too much glucose, while the next patient needs a drug to treat the musle because it can not take up and use sugar fast enough. It is not clear why NIH here single out pains whereas the same can be said to essentially all diseases.
