    Very interesting to know that the smaller pancreas in T1D is likely due to insulin deficiency. However we need a renewed focus on the mystery of "auto-immunity" in T1D, which for some time was simply termed "immune-mediated" diabetes:

    1) Is there clear evidence that the immune system is attacking Healthy islet cells rather than simply eliminating Dead and Dying islet cells?
    2) Could the islet cells in T1D have been damaged/destroyed by a toxin prior to immune system involvement?

    These important questions are currently UNanswered. If a fellow researcher can point to these studies, I'd appreciate it.
