  1. Mary O Mary O United States says:

I've had my own theory for prevention of the flu for over thirty years. People think it sounds crazy when I tell them my thoughts, but hey, it works for me.

Here's a recent story I'll share. My son and his family have recently moved in with my husband and I. I now cook for eight people, breakfast, lunch and dinner. First rule I insisted upon was that there would be absolutely no cold cereals served in my house, especially during the flu season; hot old fashioned Quaker Oats or Cream of Wheat, yes. Everyone was fine with this and enjoyed eggs, bacon and toast one day; hot ceral and toast the next day and the third day, from scratch, homemade pancakes with flaxseed and bacon. Occasionally I'll add in the cycle homemade french toast.

My husband and I recently went out of town for a week leaving the rest of the family to fend for themselves. Consequently, in the hustle and bustle to get kids off to school and in order to expedite the rush guess what? Yes, the children were served cold cereal. And, what happened next on our return? Yes, one of the kids caught and was diagnosed the H1N1 flu virus; then two and now three. Hum-m-m-m?

Believe me or not but the flu virus has never entered my husband nor myself or our two children when they still lived at home when I eliminated all cold cereals from the house; even the healthiest of brands.

Makes no sense, I'll agree, but it really works for me.
