    I'm a parent of a high functioning Autistic child (Aspergers) and a spouse of a high functioning Autistic individual. Identifying the area of abnormality is a step toward treating Autism.  Will not help me of course, not in my lifetime. In my personal case, this Autistic gene that plagues my spouses family is strong. It has effected all offspring. 14 (known) individuals within 5 generations. They are all high functioning, on varying levels, however, all are in need of assistance and are not living independently.
