Patsy, you are not alone. I understand the fear of addiction--I waited such a long time before agreeing to use pain meds - but they gave me my life back. I encourage you to consider that having a legitimate need for pain medications & living with chronic pain is NOTHING to feel guilty about. You already live with enough pain, you don't need the emotional pain of feeling guilty or judged or shame on top of the physical pain you must daily endure. You deserve to have pain relief -- and to love yourself as you are, someone with a disease, not an addict looking to get high.

I've been to pharmacies where the clerk was mean & judgemental about my meds - and I complained to the manager. People who work in a pharmacy & judge customers are not doing their job. I may have personal opinions about Viagra, Botox, and birth control, to name only 3 items ripe for prejudice along with opiates, but we don't get to impose personal judgement upon our neighbors. If you are made to feel guilty for your rx, go to a different pharmacy.

I am very glad that you are someone who has found some amount of relief from the pain of fibromyalgia - whatever the source.

If you take narcotics as prescribed, you are not addicted. You can be weaned off them at any time. I've been on and off them all.  The only one that has side effects when you are weaned off is methadone. You just have to take antidepressants while you're being weaned off...no big deal. Stop worrying about something that is not a problem. If you need narcotics, you need them!
