    As a patient with chronic pain/neuropathy, I've found most doctors will just continue with the "trial-and-error" method of trying to find a drug that will alleviate symptoms, without trying too hard to find out the correct diagnosis for the pain, even in the presence of other symptoms. My last doctor found it easier to give me a medical marijuana card (which I didn't want) when conventional drugs failed rather than to discuss my other symptoms and look at the big picture. Perhaps there is a related reason why the drugs don't work, like mitochondrial dysfunction or something metabolic, hepatic.
