As a retired nurse & patient, I have been reminded that “once upon a time” patients , regardless of condition they were being treated for were given respect & empathy. That seems to have all been forgotten. I have witnessed so many patients (especially elderly) treated with callous disdain. Patients crying & asking for help or an explanation why they can’t be helped by rude providers or support staff is unacceptable. Care has been reduced to pushing spinal cord stimulators, or numerous injections. Treating patients as individuals no longer exists. Temper back from one size fits all and focus on what your patients & their vital signs are telling you. Remember you went to medical school to HELP & FIRST DO NO HARM. A patient that is unable to perform activities of daily living, isn’t a victory just because you reduced their total daily pain medication intake.
