Hi Joan and others, I have found the natural thyroid hormone from Canadameds.com. It is the same composition (natural dessicated thyroid gland) as Armourthyroid and in Canada it is called Thyroid. I spoke with a pharmacist there and he assured me that it is the same and would have no problems switching. he said I could even use the same prescription as that I used in the USA !! I suggest to you to call Canadameds.com and see if they can help you. James

I have taken Armour thyroid for years and was dismayed to hear recently that it was not available. My brother is a compounding pharmacist and told me that he could make it for me! I just came from my new Dr's office today - she tried to convince me that Synthroid was much better, since "dried pig thyroid" is not "natural" to humans! I have never tried Synthroid, having been told by so many that Armour is so much better. All I know is that I feel great taking Armour, so "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"!! She reluctantly wrote me a prescription for the compounded Armour - I think I will be looking for another new doctor!!

I was told also by my pharmacist that they were all out of Armour. I called around to the local pharmacies, compounding pharmacies, and no one had it. This was on Sept 3, 2009. So I had no choice but my doctor prescribed me Levothyroxine and I took it for 2 weeks. Now I'm severely depressed, unable to function, sad, loss of interest in any activity, unable to sleep. Finally on Sept 27, 2009 I called CVS again and they had a shipment and I immediately refilled 5 months worth of Armour supplies. Today is Nov 1, 2009 and I still feel depressed however.
