1. Chancellor Roberts Chancellor Roberts People's Republic of China says:

Why were so many women chosen for the study? Who decided that certain pictures were of "threatening" images?

The article suggests the activity in the brain was IN RESPONSE TO seeing the images and there's nothing in the article stating EXACTLY what emotion the individuals experienced. Based on the article, the notion that something in the brain causes PTSD has not been proven. (Even the article stated the brain was "altered by PTSD", suggesting that the PTSD causes changes in the brain and not the other way around). Further, merely seeing something perceived to be threatening is not PTSD!

So, it's back to the chicken and egg question. Does the emotional response cause the changes in the brain or do the changes in the brain cause the emotional response? You CANNOT claim that "PTSD is the result of altered chemistry and physiology of the brain" unless you can show the changes in the brain occurring BEFORE the onset of PTSD and show these changes directly causing the PTSD to occur (or, for that matter, show the changes occurring before the emotional response to the "threatening" images).
