My 3 year old grandson was diagnosed with Anaplastic Apendymoma.  His tumor was discovered August 2, last month.  He spent 10 days in the hospital, received initial tumor removal of which we were told was about 60%.  Then second surgery to put in shunt.  One week upon his discharge he became extremely ill, and it was determined he had an infection.  He spent 7 days on one antibiotic with no improvement.  Then they finally changed his antibiotic, and started to show good improvement within 2 days.   The 2nd week, a team of infectious Dr's were in and told us that they were going to recommend neurology, that his new shunt should not be put in until he was on the new antibiotic for a total of 10 days.  The next day, neurology comes in and says his shunt surgery is a go for the following day.  I knew right away that must have meant neurology nixed the advice.  The surgery started then stopped, due to coming across infection.  This poor baby has been through the ringer, his surgery to have his port put in has also been delayed, delaying cancer treatment.  I'm beyond concerned about the care he has received, and am leary now about his cancer care to now continue at this hospital.  Are my fears justified, and what questions should we be asking.
