1. Billed for, but did they actually do it?

    I have researched this topic myself, and have found that over half of the providers we talked to around the country have billed for the AWV but did not know there was more to it than just an "annual physical".  The AWV has a long list of very specific requirements that most providers do not follow, and a "physical exam" is not one of them.  The AWV, when done properly, should take at least 45 minutes and includes a detailed conversation with a licensed nurse or medical provider.  I would like to see a research study to determine how many of the AWVs that were reimbursed by Medicare actually met the requirements for the visit.
