What part of the column didn't you understand? "Since controlled-release doxycycline is not an antibiotic..." Controlled release doxy is NOT an antibiotic. At controlled-release levels, there is no anti-biotic action, it does not kill bacteria. Doctors don't even think Rosacea is even bacterial based, but this will help with the redness and inflammation over 12-16 weeks. Just like Viagra was invented to help heart patients, low dose doxy has been found to help these symptoms.

Oracea® is unique because it contains a dose of doxycycline below that needed to treat infections. Instead, Oracea® works to curb inflammation – a key factor in rosacea. Unlike traditional doxycyclines, Oracea® doesn’t work by killing bacteria. This is important because:

        * Rosacea is a long-term (chronic) inflammatory condition
        * Most doctors believe that Rosacea is not caused by bacteria or other microbes
        * Antibiotic doses of doxycyclines and tetracyclines can lead to the development of bacterial resistance
        * Studies have not shown Oracea® to contribute to antibiotic resistance
