    Hypothyroidism is a side effect of Lithium treatment for some patients, which then contributes to weight gain and depressive episodes. Lithium is the go-to med for many Pdocs because it is affective, BUT these issues must be addressed.
    After taking Lithium, I had to take thyroid supplements. Amazingly, I lost the weight I had gained, and depression is now much more efficiently controlled.
    Many doctors do not tell patients what to look for regarding side effects, and the patients must educate themselves.
