Bonding Optical Components in Medical Devices

A customer is working on a medical device, which could be disposed or reused with the possibility of sterilization cycles. The device requires bonding of an optical lens using a single component system. Master Bond offers a wide range of UV curable compounds that are USP Class VI approved.

UV10Med /UV10TKMED: UV Curable Adhesives

Based on the assumption that the bonding area is fully accessible to UV light, Master Bond recommends UV10TKMED or UV10Med UV curable adhesive. Both these products are optically clear and fulfill the USP class VI specifications. The UV10TKMED also meets the ISO 10993-5 specifications.

The UV10Med UV curable adhesive provides extremely low viscosity than UV10TKMED, which provides moderate but flowable viscosity. These products can be employed in applications where sterilizations such as gamma radiation and ethylene oxide are involved. The UV10TKMED can even be used in applications where repeated sterilization processes such as autoclaving and steam sterilization are carried out. Most UV curing adhesives are not suitable for such applications. Specifications of UV10Med and UV10TKMED adhesives are given below:
