PrimeStore® MTM is a molecular transport medium that preserves and stabilizes DNA and RNA, giving the user a “snapshot” in time for that sample.
For molecular testing, PrimeStore® MTM (Molecular Transport Medium) was created and refined to enable the safe and effective collection, transportation, and processing of pathogenic samples. Millions of tubes of PrimeStore® MTM were sold to customers worldwide during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.

The molecular transport medium inactivates infectious biological pathogens, including viruses and gram-positive/negative bacteria, while preserving and stabilizing fragile DNA and RNA for downstream molecular applications.
Before molecular testing became widely used, viral transport media (VTM) were created to transport intact samples for culture. These media contain substances that prevent the best molecular testing results. PrimeStore® MTM, on the other hand, was created and refined, especially for molecular testing.
As the only FDA Class 2 cleared product for microbial nucleic acid storage and stabilization, PrimeStore® MTM offers hospitals and laboratories a safer, more reliable testing solution compared to UTM/VTM, saline, or research-use-only devices.
Independent laboratory validations have demonstrated PrimeStore® MTM’s compatibility with various platforms, including Roche, Thermo Fisher, Abbott, Siemens, Luminex, Bio-Rad, PSS, Promega, BioMerieux, and the Cepheid GeneXpert point-of-care platform.
A key advantage of PrimeStore® MTM is its ability to enable multiple tests from a single sample that has been inactivated and stabilized within the medium.
Since 2011, multiple peer-reviewed scientific studies have supported its effectiveness for pathogen detection across a wide range of clinical matrices and biofluid types, collected and processed in various countries.
