New finding could lead to more effective treatment decisions for younger colorectal cancer patients

Younger colon cancer patients appear to have more than three times as many mutations in their tumors as older patients, which could lead to more effective treatment decisions, say researchers at Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Colon cancer patients with healthy lifestyle have longer disease-free survival, study finds

A study of 992 patients with stage III colon cancer found that those who reported a healthy lifestyle during and following adjuvant (post-surgery) treatment had a 42% lower chance of death and a trend for lower chance of cancer recurrence than those who had less healthy lifestyles.

An observational study of 826 patients with stage III colon cancer showed that those who consumed two ounces or more of nuts per week had a 42% lower chance of cancer recurrence and 57% lower chance of death than those who did not eat nuts.

Aspirin used in “baby” doses may prevent breast cancer, study suggests

A new study led by City of Hope researchers has found that regular use of low-dose aspirin (81mg) reduces breast cancer risk in women. Led by Leslie Bernstein, the team found that women who took the low-dose aspirin, also known as “baby” aspirin, at least three times per week had an overall 16% reduced risk of developing breast cancer.
