1. Why am I using Tranexamic Acid Waymade?
Tranexamic Acid Waymade contains the active ingredient tranexamic acid. Tranexamic
Acid Waymade is used to prevent excessive bleeding in patients with traumatic hyphaema
(bleeding into the front part of the eye); blood clotting disorders, who are having
minor surgery; heavy periods; hereditary angioneurotic oedema (periodic swelling of
the throat).
2. What should I know before I use Tranexamic Acid Waymade?
Do not use if you have ever had an allergic reaction to Tranexamic Acid Waymade or
any of the ingredients listed at the end of the CMI.
Talk to your doctor if you have any other medical conditions, take any other medicines,
or are pregnant or plan to become pregnant or are breastfeeding.
3. What if I am taking other medicines?
Some medicines may interfere with Tranexamic Acid Waymade and affect how it works.
4. How do I use Tranexamic Acid Waymade?
Follow the instructions provided to you by your doctor or pharmacist carefully. They

Keep your tablets in a cool, dry place where the temperature stays below 25°C and
protect from light.

6. Are there any side effects?
All medicines can have side effects. If they do occur, they are usually minor and
temporary. Do not be alarmed by this list. You may not experience any of them. The
more common side effects are nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. The less common side
effects are unexpected pain, unexpected swelling in your legs or arms, allergic skin
reactions, changes in your eyesight, convulsions, fits or seizures, giddiness or dizziness.

1. Why am I using Tranexamic Acid Waymade?
Tranexamic Acid Waymade contains the active ingredient tranexamic acid. Tranexamic Acid Waymade is an antifibrinolytic that works by slowing the processes
that cause bleeding.
Tranexamic Acid Waymade is used to prevent excessive bleeding in patients with: traumatic
hyphaema (bleeding into the front part of the eye)
blood clotting disorders, who are having minor surgery
heavy periods
hereditary angioneurotic oedema (periodic swelling of the throat)
2. What should I know before I use Tranexamic Acid Waymade?
Warnings
Do not use Tranexamic Acid Waymade if:
are allergic to tranexamic acid, or any of the ingredients listed at the end of this
leaflet.
Always check the ingredients to make sure you can use this medicine.
are being treated for stroke
are being treated for blood clots in your legs, lungs or anywhere else in your body
have a problem with colour vision that developed after you were born.
Check with your doctor if you:
have any other medical conditions
take any medicines for any other condition
or someone in your family, has ever suffered from blood clots
have severe bruising
have kidney disease with or without blood in the urine
have irregular periods and the reason is not known
have or have ever suffered from convulsions, fits or seizures before you start taking
Tranexamic Acid Waymade. Convulsions, fits or seizures have been reported with treatment.
have any allergies to:
any other medicines
any other substances, such as foods, preservatives or dyes
Symptoms of allergic reaction may include shortness of breath, wheezing or difficulty
breathing; swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or other parts of the body; skin rash,
itching or hives.
Do not give this medicine to anyone else even if they have the same condition of you.
During treatment, you may be at risk of developing certain side effects. It is important
you understand these risks and how to monitor for them. See additional information
under Section
6. Are there any side effects?
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Check with your doctor if you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant.
Talk to your doctor if you are breastfeeding or intend to breastfeed.
3. What if I am taking other medicines?
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including any
medicines, vitamins or supplements that you buy without a prescription from your pharmacy,
supermarket or health food shop.
Some medicines may interfere with Tranexamic Acid Waymade and affect how it works.
Other medicines used to prevent bleeding
Medicines used to thin the blood
Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure about what medicines, vitamins
or supplements you are taking and if these affect Tranexamic Acid Waymade.
4. How do I use Tranexamic Acid Waymade?
How much to take / use
Follow the instructions provided to you by your doctor or pharmacist carefully. They
may differ from the information contained in this leaflet.
The usual dose is two to three tablets.
Swallow tablets with water.
When to take / use Tranexamic Acid Waymade
Traumatic hyphaema (bleeding to the front part of the eye)
Take two or three tablets every 8 hours, for six to seven days.
Heavy periods
Take two or three tablets four times a day for four days.
Start taking tablets when you first notice the bleeding.
Take Tranexamic Acid Waymade tablets for the first four days of your period.
See your doctor for a check up after three months of treatment.
If the bleeding is not reduced, talk to your doctor.
Hereditary Angioneurotic Oedema (periodic swelling of the throat)
The usual dose is two or three tablets, 2 to 3 times a day.
Your doctor will tell you how long to take the tablets.
For those with a clotting disorder, having minor surgery
The usual dose is two or three tablets, 2 to 3 times a day.
Your doctor will tell you how long to take the tablets.
The directions your doctor gives you should be strictly followed.
If you do not understand the instructions in this leaflet, ask your doctor or pharmacist
for help.
If you forget to use Tranexamic Acid Waymade
Take your Tranexamic Acid Waymade tablets as soon as you remember and then go back
to taking it as you normally would.
If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose you missed and take your next
dose when you are meant to.
Do not try to make up for missed doses by taking more than one dose at a time because
this may increase the chance of you getting an unwanted side effect
If you have trouble remembering when to take your medicine, ask your pharmacist for
some hints.
If you use too much Tranexamic Acid Waymade
If you think that you have used too much Tranexamic Acid Waymade, you may need urgent
medical attention.
Symptoms from taking too much or being given too much Tranexamic Acid Waymade include:
dizziness
headache
nausea
diarrhoea
low blood pressure
convulsions, fits or seizures
You should immediately:
phone the Poisons Information Centre
(by calling
13 11 26), or
contact your doctor, or
go to the Emergency Department at your nearest hospital.
You should do this even if there are no signs of discomfort or poisoning.
5. What should I know while using Tranexamic Acid Waymade?
Things you should do
Tell any other doctors, dentists and pharmacists that you are being treated with Tranexamic
Acid Waymade.
If you start on any new medicine, tell your doctor, dentist or pharmacist that you
are being treated with Tranexamic Acid Waymade
Driving or using machines
Be careful before you drive or use any machines or tools until you know how Tranexamic
Acid Waymade affects you.
Looking after your medicine
Keep your tablets in a cool, dry place where the temperature stays below 25°C and
protect from light
Follow the instructions in the carton on how to take care of your medicine properly.
Store it in a cool dry place away from moisture, heat or sunlight; for example, do
not store it:
in the bathroom or near a sink, or
in the car or on window sills.
Keep it where young children cannot reach it.
A locked cupboard at least one and a half metres above the ground is a good place
to store medicines.
Getting rid of any unwanted medicine
If you no longer need to use this medicine or it is out of date, take it to any pharmacy
for safe disposal.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date.
Remember: this medicine is for you. Never give it to someone else even if they have
the same condition as you.
6. Are there any side effects?
All medicines can have side effects. If you do experience any side effects, most of
them are minor and temporary. However, some side effects may need medical attention.

Tranexamic Acid Waymade is a white to off white, oblong shaped, film-coated biconvex
tablet with a break-line and marked "TA" on one side of the break-line and the other
side is plain. (AUST R 411630).
Tranexamic Acid Waymade is available in PVC/Alu blister packs of 100 tablets.
