Epilepsy Therapy Project unveils My Epilepsy Diary

Epilepsy Therapy Project, a leader in accelerating new therapies for people living with epilepsy and seizures, announces the release of My Epilepsy Diary, a breakthrough data-gathering and reporting product designed to improve epilepsy care and quality of life.

The My Epilepsy Diary launch coincides with the November 2009 National Epilepsy Awareness Month.

My Epilepsy Diary allows patients to enter real-time details about their seizures, medicines, side effects, moods, and other personal events, directly from their browsers and smart phones. Users can easily describe these events using the rich set of common seizure characteristics the product provides.

"My Epilepsy Diary is based on years of experience trying to gather information from patients and families to understand the relationships among seizures, adverse effects, medicine, and daily function," said Robert S. Fisher, M.D., Ph.D., Director of the Stanford Epilepsy Center and Editor-in-Chief of epilepsy.com. "This product is designed for simple entry of information and visual assessment of issues, which is easy for the patient, family, doctor, and nurse."

The innovative My Epilepsy Diary reporting feature allows patients to generate personalized reports to bring to medical visits, providing their doctors and nurses with not only snapshots of recent events but also long-term trend data, both key to assessing treatment effectiveness.

"My Epilepsy Diary encourages patients to record many different components related to their seizures, to create a picture of how they change over time," said Joyce A. Cramer, President of Epilepsy Therapy Project and epilepsy.com. "Bringing printouts from My Epilepsy Diary to a doctor visit makes it easier to identify what component of the treatment plan can be changed to improve the patient's overall quality of life."

Patients can also allow physicians at participating clinics to import data from My Epilepsy Diary tables and charts into the patient's online medical record. "My Epilepsy Diary is an e-medicine breakthrough for people with epilepsy," said Ms. Cramer.

My Epilepsy Diary is the first product in the Epilepsy Therapy Project Clinical Organizer, an integrated suite of consumer health tools and information offered free of charge on epilepsy.com, the #1 epilepsy information and networking site worldwide, with more than 200,000 unique viewers per month.
