Nonin Medical, Inc., a leading innovator of noninvasive physiological monitoring solutions, was awarded the Medical Technology Award and its owner and CTO, Phil Isaacson received the Technology Executive of the Year by the Minnesota High Tech Association (MHTA), in partnership with Enterprise Minnesota and LifeScience Alley.

Playing a significant role in bringing new technology to life, the 2009 Tekne Award recipients represent companies that have positively impacted the quality of life in Minnesota and throughout the world. Each of the 14 Tekne Award categories recognizes the best and brightest in development, education, commercialization and management of technology.

Nonin Medical, the inventor of fingertip pulse oximetry, was recognized for its wireless fingertip pulse oximeter with Bluetooth® technology, the Onyx® II, Model 9560. Signifying a major step in telemedicine and chronic disease management, the Onyx® II, Model 9560 enables clinicians to remotely and accurately monitor patients with chronic diseases such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) or Asthma. This device is the world's first interoperable fingertip pulse oximeter, using the Bluetooth Health Device Profile (HDP) and has obtained Continua(TM) certification for interoperability.

As the driving force behind Nonin Medical's vision of improving patient care through technological innovation, founder Phil Isaacson was honored with the Technology Executive of the Year Award for over two decades of innovative contributions to both Nonin Medical and the medical device industry.

"Over the past 10 years, we have seen the quality and originality of each entry improve. This year's winners are no exception in setting outstanding examples of innovation and leadership," said Kate Rubin, president, MHTA. "Nonin Medical impressed the judges in how it is helping to secure Minnesota's place as a center of innovation in the global economy."
