PRI's risk management conference focuses on public policy and future trends in medical malpractice

Physicians’ Reciprocal Insurers (PRI), the second largest medical malpractice insurer in New York state, today announced that it will host its Ninth Annual Risk Management Conference on Tuesday, November 17 at the Helmsley Hotel in New York City. The full day risk management conference, which is geared towards risk managers, healthcare administrators and clinicians, is comprised of a series of presentations and workshop sessions focused on emerging issues, case studies, public policy and future trends in medical malpractice.

To help foster a collaborative learning environment among attendees, PRI is making a limited number of admissions available to non-PRI insured healthcare professionals, for a fee of $150. For more information, please email Linda Foy at [email protected].

The purpose of the conference is to generate new ideas and spread best practices in performance improvement and patient safety. Participants will build their knowledge of practical approaches and implementation strategies for high risk areas, and have an opportunity to share ideas with peers from like facilities.

“Our conferences always have a motivated audience and a productive dialogue on approaches to risk management and the provision of care,” said Jeanne Braun, Executive Vice President of PRI. “We’re confident that the sessions and presenters at this year’s conference will continue that tradition.”

In addition to break-out sessions on long term care, ambulatory care and acute care, the conference features a variety of compelling guest speakers:

  • Howard S. Berliner, Sc.D., Professor and Chair, Health Policy and Management at SUNY Downstate School of Public Health, will speak on the current status of health care reform and what administrators need to watch for;
  • Arvind Singhal, Ph.D., Director of Research and Outreach at Sam Donaldson Center for Communication Studies at the University of Texas at El Paso, will address how “Positive Deviance”—simple yet uncommon behaviors that have a major impact—can reduce healthcare associated infections;
  • Grena G. Porto, RN, ARM, CPHRM, Founder and Principal of QRS Consulting, will present “Drawing the Line, Effective Strategies for Managing Disruptive Clinicians;”
  • and Randy Johnson, Ph.D., Chief Patient Safety Officer at Baptist Health in Montgomery, Alabama will give a unique presentation on how lessons from the aviation industry can improve patient safety.

“Through efforts like our Risk Management Conference, PRI strives to be more than just a provider of medical malpractice insurance,” said Braun. “We are dedicated to keeping professionals informed and being a source of creative solutions to today’s risk management challenges.”
