Omnicell, Inc. (Nasdaq: OMCL), a leading provider of system solutions to acute healthcare facilities, today announced that South Jersey Healthcare (SJH) Regional Medical Center has implemented Omnicell 14.0 with Anywhere RN(TM), a software solution used in conjunction with Omnicell's automated medication dispensing cabinets to ensure safe, efficient and accessible medication management throughout the hospital. South Jersey Healthcare was one of the first hospitals to implement Omnicell 14.0, which is now available to all Omnicell customers.
Anywhere RN is the industry's first software solution to enable nurses to review medication orders at virtually any hospital computer or workstation and select profiled medications to issue from an Omnicell automated dispensing cabinet. Nurses may also use Anywhere RN to record medication waste and queue return transactions. At South Jersey Healthcare, Anywhere RN has positively impacted nursing efficiency; since implementation, time spent at the automated medication dispensing cabinet during the medication issue process has fallen by 33 percent.
"South Jersey Healthcare has been a leader in implementing technology that ensures our patients have access to the highest levels of medication safety," said Joseph Alessandrini, assistant vice-president, Clinical Services and administrative director of Department of Pharmaceutical Care and Drug Information Services at South Jersey Healthcare. "Anywhere RN dramatically increases the nurses' ability to access patient medications in a safer and more efficient manner, allowing our clinicians to focus on patient care."
Anywhere RN is a unique medication management solution, enabling nurses to perform cabinet functions from any hospital workstation including mobile medication systems. With Anywhere RN, cabinet functions can be completed remotely at a time and location that is most convenient for the nurse, increasing nursing efficiency by eliminating steps required to go to a fixed station. Patient safety is also maximized by reducing the number of interruptions that occur during the medication administration process. South Jersey Healthcare surveyed their nurses and 75 percent of the staff reported Anywhere RN provided an additional safety check of medications and over 60 percent of nurses observed that both patient safety and nursing efficiency increased with Anywhere RN.
"Omnicell solutions such as Anywhere RN are defining a new standard of excellence in nursing medication management," said Randall Lipps, president, chairman and CEO, Omnicell. "We developed this solution based on direct customer feedback from leading hospitals such as South Jersey Healthcare. Addressing the need for remote management of medications, Anywhere RN will help healthcare providers increase operational efficiencies and improve clinical outcomes for their patients."
